Cruises – Past, Present, Future

There are many cruises available. The Colorado Prime Timers does not sponsor or support any particular one. Sometimes they may be listed in the World Wide Prime Timers site. Here is some historic information of a 2020 cruise from one of our members.

The Ohio Prime Timers chapter sponsored an 11 night South Caribbean cruise on the Serenade of the Seas, Royal Caribbean cruise line.  The cruise departed from Fort Lauderdale on March 2nd and returned on March 13th, 2020.

There were a total of 37 Prime Timers on board.  The cruise stopped at the following ports: Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, Colon, Panama, Cartegena Columbia, Oranjestad, Aruba, Willemstad, Curacoa, and back to Fort Lauderdale.

This cruise was a great opportunity to spend quality time with various Prime Timer friends I have known for years from other chapters, and I had the opportunity to get to meet individuals from other Prime timer Chapters throughout the nation.

Because this cruise was my 40th cruise, I will highlight some issues about cruising for the sole purpose of answering questions some readers might have about cruising. In case you are like me, and you forget what day of the week it is, as you step into the elevator, you will be reminded of the day because the day of the week is advertised on the floor of each elevator.

The average person gains 5-10 pounds on a 7-day cruise depending on factors such as frequency of physical activity, daily caloric intake, alcohol consumption, and your ability to resist delicious desserts prepared by talented Chefs (like our own Chef Charles).

Seasickness is an issue for some passengers, however, if you are prone to seasickness it is advised that you take the necessary medication with you on a cruise. I have been told to look out on the horizon to minimize the effects of seasickness.

Have you ever wondered if you can play billiards on a cruise ship?  The Serenade of the seas pool tables actually has “Stabilizers” within the table. These stabilizers keep the surface of the ship perfectly level even in rough seas. Have you ever wondered if there are ice skating rinks on Cruise ships Yes! If you can not decide between two entrees on the main menu, can you order both? Yes!
