PrideFest 2022 is fast approaching. Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26. Colorado will be celebrating PrideFest or Gay Pride, or whatever anyone wants to call it as long as it is said with PRIDE! Volunteer lists available at Wednesday meeting.
Webster defines pride as “reasonable or justifiable sense of one’s worth or position.” The term “pride” seems not only befitting, but actually appropriate when we think of those who have suffered and gave their lives in the struggle and hurdles we as gay men face in our daily lives.
Our task as gay men is redefining our world views and how we see each other and ourselves. The fact that we have an annual event like PrideFest can serve as a reminder that we have come as far as we have, die to our individual and collective efforts to insist upon full dignity and respect. We deserve that and it is part of our birthright. It can also serve as a measure of our continued journey to a point where an individual’s sexual orientation carries no more significance than any other part of our lives.
This is a time for us to recognize what is truly unique about gay culture and the positive contribution to civilization we have given. These are ways we manifest and personify man-to-man emotions, passions and erotic bonding. How does the “love that dare not speak its name” stand up and account for itself? Few of us fully participate in the benefits of life and are still waiting nervously for an invitation to join the life that is there waiting for us.
Several members of the Colorado Prime Timers did a magnificent job of explaining just what Prime Timers stand for and what the organization can do for you. There is always a continuous line of people stopping by the booth and also many at the beer, water and soda booth asking what the Colorado Prime Timers is and what do we do. We are always selling our organization. Kudos go out to all the volunteers who have worked PrideFest. If you have never attended or volunteered to work PrideFest, it can be fun and very educating. So, come out and enjoy the fellowship of others, your fellow Prime Timers and share your talents and show your PRIDE!!!!!
